He was recruited into 16 Punjab battalion of the Punjab Regiment, an infantry Regiment with a long history of gallantry and numerous battle exploits.

Kupwara Operation : 04 Sep 2012

During 2012, Naik Rajeshver Singh’s unit 16 Punjab was deployed in Kupwara district of J & K. As the AOR (Area Of Responsibility) of the Battalion ran along the LOC, it was also prone to infiltration from across the border. Besides manning the forward posts and undertaking counter-infiltration operations, the unit launched regular armed patrols to monitor its area. On 04 Sep 2012, Naik Rajeshver Singh was deployed at Abdul Hut Post on the Line of Control when at 1640 hours, the Post came under heavy automatic fire by the enemy from Ratwaji Nar of Kupwara district in J&K.

During initial volley of enemy fire, Sep Sushil Kumar was wounded and Naik Rajeshver displaying raw courage rushed to his aid. During this act, he observed intruders charging from thick foliage towards the Post. Showing exceptional courage, camaraderie and total disregard for his own safety, Naik Rajeshver Singh quickly changed his position and charged towards the leading terrorist who had closed on to the post. The ensuing firefight resulted in the killing of one terrorist and Naik Rajeshver Singh sustaining a burst of fire. Thereafter, with single-minded purpose, exceptional valor and regardless of his injuries, he continued fighting, thereby injuring a second terrorist. Naik Rajeshver Singh’s indomitable spirit and exceptional bravery forced the enemy to abandon their assault and successfully repulsed the threat to the Post. However Naik Rajeshver Singh later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Naik Rajeshver Singh was a valiant and dedicated soldier who laid down his life  in the line of his duty. Naik Rajeshver Singh was given the gallantry award, “Shaurya Chakra” for his dauntless courage and exceptional bravery beyond the call of his duty.

Naik Rajeshver Singh is survived by his father Shri Balwan Singh, mother Smt Satya Devi and wife Smt Savita Devi.
