Sepoy Hirakjyoti Kalita hailed from Mekanor Chuburi village in Assam’s Sonitpur district. A proud son of the soil, he joined the Indian Army after completing his schooling and was inducted into the esteemed 1st Battalion of the Assam Regiment.

Sepoy Hirakjyoti Kalita was serving with the 1st Assam Battalion in the unforgiving terrain of the Siachen Glacier—the highest and most difficult battlefield in the world. On 17 December 2012, while performing his duty with exceptional dedication and bravery, he made the ultimate sacrifice and was martyred in the line of duty.
He is survived by his father, Shri Bidyut Kalita
