Sepoy Jagat Singh hailed from the scenic and hilly district of Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, a region renowned for its rich military tradition and contribution to the Indian Armed Forces. Drawn by a deep sense of patriotism and a desire to serve the nation, he joined the Indian Army and was inducted into the 7 Kumaon Battalion of the Kumaon Regiment. The Kumaon Regiment is one of the oldest and most decorated infantry regiments of the Indian Army, with its lineage dating back to the 18th century. Known for its valour, professionalism, and distinguished service in numerous wars and operations, the regiment has produced many brave soldiers, and Sepoy Jagat Singh was proud to be part of this legacy. In his personal life, Sepoy Jagat Singh was married to Smt. Chandra Devi, who stood by him with unwavering support and pride in his service.
Indo - Pak War : 1971
During Dec 1971, Sepoy Jagat Singh was serving with 7 Kumaon Battalion that was deployed on the border with Pakistan. In one of the operations during the war, he was martyred on 05 Dec 1971. He was posthumously honoured with the "Sena Medal" in recognition of his commendable bravery, devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice.
