Lance Naik Adarsh P hailed from Chungam village in Kozhikode district of Kerala. From a young age, he harbored a deep passion for serving in the Armed Forces, inspired by the spirit of patriotism and dedication to the nation that resonated among many young people in Kerala. Determined to turn his aspiration into reality, he pursued his education in his native village and remained steadfast in his goal of joining the Indian Army. With unwavering commitment, L/Nk Adarsh eventually realized his dream when he was recruited into 426 (Independent) Field Regiment of the prestigious Regiment of Artillery. The Regiment of Artillery serves as a crucial combat support arm of the Indian Army, renowned for its formidable firepower, including field guns, howitzers, and other advanced heavy weaponry.
As a soldier in this elite regiment, Lance Naik Adarsh P underwent rigorous training to master the operation and deployment of artillery systems, honing his skills to contribute effectively to India’s defence forces. Throughout his tenure, he played an integral role in supporting combat operations, ensuring precision and effectiveness in artillery strikes, which are vital for mission success on the battlefield.
Army Vehicle Accident (Himachal Pradseh): 10 May 2024
During May 2024, Lance Naik Adarsh P's unit, the 416 Field Regiment, was deployed in Himachal Pradesh. This sector is heavily militarized, with soldiers stationed on mountaintop posts to guard the Line of Control (LoC) and prevent the infiltration of militants. The unit played a crucial role in ensuring the operational readiness of various Army formations under its controlling Command Headquarters by providing expertise in the repair and maintenance of diverse equipment and weapons systems. This responsibility required the unit's personnel to frequently move between different locations, often under challenging conditions, to uphold the operational efficiency of Army units within its Area of Responsibility (AOR). The AOR of the 416 Field Regiment spanned vast and treacherous mountainous terrain, characterized by extreme weather conditions, particularly during winter. The region’s narrow and steeply inclined roads posed significant challenges to the movement of troops and military vehicles. Despite these difficulties, the soldiers remained dedicated to their mission, ensuring seamless operations across the sector.
On 10 May 2024, Lance Naik Adarsh P was assigned an operational task along with a team of soldiers. This mission required the team to travel by road to a designated location in Himachal Pradesh. As per the plan, L/Nk Adarsh and his comrades set off in a military vehicle on the morning of 10 May 2024, prepared for the demanding journey ahead. As the vehicle traversed the rugged terrain, the weather suddenly took a turn for the worse. A heavy downpour made the already treacherous roads slick and hazardous. While maneuvering along the winding mountain roads, a rock, dislodged by the rain, fell onto the vehicle. Despite the driver’s best efforts to maintain control, the relentless rain, steep gradients, and the sudden impact proved too overwhelming. Within moments, the vehicle veered off the road and plunged down a sheer cliff into a deep gorge. The vehicle was mangled beyond recognition due to the severe impact. L/Nk Adarsh P sustained critical injuries in the accident. Despite immediate efforts to provide medical assistance, he succumbed to his injuries, making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty at the young age of 27. Lance Naik Adarsh P was a dedicated and highly competent soldier, known for his unwavering commitment to duty and professional excellence. His supreme sacrifice was recognized by the nation, and on 26 January 2025, he was posthumously awarded the prestigious “Sena Medal” for his exceptional courage, devotion to duty, and selfless service.
L/Nk Adarsh P is survived by his wife, whom he had married just six months before his untimely martyrdom.
