Lance Naik Arun Kumar Singh

Lance Naik Arun Kumar Singh hailed from saryupar village of Saran district in Bihar and was born on 29 Sep 1976. He joined the Army on 28th Feb 1994 at the age of 17 years. He was recruited into 81 Field Regiment of the Regiment of Artillery, one of the important combat arms of the Indian army. After serving for few years with his parent unit he was deputed to serve with 36 RR deployed in J&K.

 

Anantnag Mine blast : 20 Nov 1999

 

During 1999, Lance Naik Arun Kumar’s unit 36 RR was deployed in Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir. The AOR (The Area Of Responsibility) of 36 RR was infested with militants and the unit had to resord to counterinsurgency operations based on intelligence reports on a regular basis. The unit launched regular patrols to monitor militants activities in its AOR. L/Nk Arun Kumar was part of one such patrol on 20 th Nov 1999.  

 

L/Nk Arun Kumar along with his comrades had to patrol the area of Fatehpur village in Anatnag district on that day. When the patrol party reached near the village at around 1300 hrs it was struck by a mine blast. The blast had a devastating effect, wherein  L/Nk Arun Kumar suffered severe injuries. He was immediately shifted to the 92 Base army hospital in Srinagar. However, he later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. L/NK Arun Kumar was a valiant soldier who laid down his life at the age of 23 years in the service of the nation.

 

L/Nk Arun Kumar Singh is survived by his wife Smt Neelam Devi and son Nitesh Kumar Singh.
