Lance Naik Sunil Kumar

Lance Naik Sunil Kumar hailed from Pawal District of Haryana. After completing his studies he joined Indian Army in 2012. L Nk Sunil Kumar had completed his course in free fall jump and was a trained para jumper . He had gained vast experience in parachute jumping and had completed more than 67 Jumps.

 

 Malpura parachute Accident : 23 Mar 2018

 

During 2018, Lance Naik Sunil Kumar was serving with 1 Para Special Force based at Nahan in Himachal Pardaesh. In Mar 2018, he was sent on a three week training program at Malpura Zone in Agra. Though he had done his basic training course in free fall jump but as the soldiers are required to be fit and trained all the time, he was sent to the training centre for a refresher course. On 23rd March 2018, he was scheduled to carry out a free fall jump as part of refresher programme at the Para dropping zone.

 

As part of the process, L Nk Sunil Kumar and his mates were taken by an AN 32 transport aircraft at a height of 6000 feet. Lance Naik Sunil Kumar jumped from the aircraft at the designated height and time but his main parachute unfortunately failed to open. As his main parachute’s line got tangled, he couldn’t cut through to open the reserve parachute. Consequently L Nk Sunil Kumar sustained head injuries after from falling from a height of 6000 feet. Immediately he was rushed to the Military hospital in Agra but the impact had taken its toll and he succumbed to his injuries. L Nk Sunil Kumar was a valiant and committed soldier who lost his life in the line of his duty.

 

Lance Naik Sunil Kumar is survived by his wife and a son.
