Lieutenant Bhushan Ajay Parab hailed from the Mumbai in Maharashtra and was born on 31 Dec 1975. The only child of Shri Ashok Parab, he did his degree in engineering but was keen to join the Armed Forces right from his younger days. Driven by his passion, he convinced his parents to permit him to follow his dream. Consequently, he joined the Officers’ Training Academy in Chennai in October 1999 as part of SS-70 course. Unfortunately his mother passed away in Sep 1999, but taking the tragedy in his stride, he went to OTA Chennai to join the training in October 1999. After completing the training, he passed out of OTA Chennai as a Lieutenant in Sep 2000 at the age of 24 years.
He was commissioned into the Corps of Signals, an important arm of the Indian Army that handles its military communications. The Corps has the responsibility of providing reliable and responsive communications to the Army under harsh terrain and tough battlefield conditions in consonance with its motto, “Teevra Chaukas” meaning “Swift and Secure”. Besides having soldierly skills, Lt Bhushan was a good athlete and bodybuilder, who won many laurels in various sports competitions. After getting commissioned in Sep 2000, he got posted to Amritsar in Punjab as his first assignment.
During Nov 2000, Lt Bhushan was serving with 15 Inf Div located in Amritsar in the Western Sector. 15 Inf Div had many units under its command and Lt Bhushan was responsible to look after the operational communications for various units in the AOR (Area of Responsibility) of the Division. On 30 Nov 2000, Lt Bhushan was assigned an operational task. However while carrying the assigned task, Lt Bhushan lost his life and was martyred. Lt Bhushan was a committed soldier and a gallant officer, who laid down his life in the service of the nation before he could even turn 25.
In an effort to carry forward the legacy of Lt Bhushan Ajay Parab, his father Shri Ashok Parab started a foundation called, "Lt Bhushan Ajay Ashok Parab Foundation" in Mumbai to undertake various charitable activities.
