Lt Col V K Bopardikar

Lieutenant Colonel V K Bopardikar was born on 12th August 1913. After doing his degree in medicine he joined Regiment of Army Medical Corps. During his career in army he held many important positions and had participated in operations given below

    1. Occupation Forces to Singapore in 1945 to 1946
    2. Staff Medical Officer in Bombay
    3.  Field Ambulance in Ambala, Ferozpore, Faridkot.
    4.  Senior Recruiting Medical Officer, Pune.
    5.  Senior Medical Officer Chakabama, Nagaland
    6.  1962, Chinese Operations in NEFA
    7.  Professor of Pharmacology, AFMC.
    8.  Registrar, MH Bangalore.
    9.  1956, went to Indochina with the UN Peace Keeping Force
    10. 1965, Pakistan war, was in AFMC Pune.
Lt. Col VK Bopardikar married Ms Indumati Badami on 9 November, 1941.They had three children, Krishnakumar who joined the Indian Air Force and retired in 1986 as a Wg Cdr, Ms Leela, who married Nishikant Ketkar and Ms Meera, who remained unmarried. Mrs Indumati Bopardikar is now nearly 97 years old and is currently living with his son.
 
After retiring from AMC on 25th Jan 1968, Lt Col Bopardikar served as Prof of Pharmacology at Kasturba Medical College and College of Pharmacy. He also served for two years from 1980 to 1982 with the Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, before retiring for good and settling in Pune in 1982 till his death of natural causes on 22nd May 1994.
 
He was a gentleman, an Officer of the highest order, a marvelous teacher, devoted to his teaching. The family can never forget his example of decent honest living, nor can his hundreds of students forget their Professor, as was seen by the number of letters received by the family after his demise!
 
Lieutenant Colonel V K Bopardikar is survived by his wife Smt Indumati Badami and his children Wg Cdr Krishnakumar , Smt Leela Ketkar and Ms Meera.

Kasturba medical College has named the biggest Undergraduate Laboratory as  VK Bopardikar UG Lab.
