    On 12 March 2004 while posted with 27 Rashtriya Rifle, Major Amit Sharma alongwith his column was located in Gen area Khotewali. During the search of Gen area Khotewali the column officer Maj Amit Sharma noticed terrorist movement near vicinity. Maj Amit Sharma immediately opened fire in the ensuing fire fight on 12 March 2004 at approx 1250 hrs. Maj Amit Sharma sustained gunshot wound in his right leg. He was evacuated to 169 MH where he succumbed to his injury at 0240 hrs on 13 March 2004
