Road Accident (Arunachal Pradesh): 22 Jan 2022

In 2020 Maj Subroto Adhicary was serving with his unit that was depoyed in Arunachal Pradesh.  He was functioning as Second-in-Command of the unit and was deeply involved in various operations of the unit. The AOR(Area of Responsibility) of the unit spanned over remote rugged mountainous terrain with extreme weather conditions, especially in the winter season. The troops were deployed on various forward posts and often undertook patrol to monitor the area in between the manned posts.  The mountainous roads in the AOR of the unit were narrow and had steep gradients posing serious challenges to the quick movement of troops.

On 22 Jan 2022, Maj Subroto Adhicary was on his way from Brigade HQs to his unit and was traveling in a vehicle near Rupa, a tehsil/Mandal in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. The place, surrounded by three rivers viz. Dinik, Ziding, and Doblo had challenging road conditions with unexpected turns and gradients. On one such turn, Maj Subroto Adhicary lost control and as a result, his vehicle toppled, injuring him severely. Unfortunately, the injuries proved fatal and Maj Subroto Adhicary lost his life in this tragic accident. Maj Subroto Adhicary was an officer par excellence and will always be remembered for his service to the nation.

Maj Subroto Adhicary is survived by his mother Smt Meena Adhicary, wife Smt Debashree Banerji, and a younger brother. Later carrying forward the legacy of her husband, Smt Debashree Banerji joined the Indian Army and was commissioned as an officer in the Army after she completed her training at the OTA in Chennai in September 2023.

I have fond memories with Subroto during our horse riding classes in NDA…always cheerful lad with a dimple and those happy vibes ….. we used to tune together on riding experiences on those notorious beasts ….. Afterwards We had spoken twice after commissioning ….. once he was in 12 and then when he was in RR , discussing same old and challenging times during riding classes ….. He was such a proud INFANTRIAN !! I had seen both of you together in his dp only ( both happy and smiling )…
