Naik Babu Lal Singh hailed from Choond Kala village in Rampur Baghelan Tehsil in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh and was born on 26th Jan 1967. Son of Shri Shripal Singh and Smt Subhadra Devi, Naik Babu Lal Singh always had the inclination to join the Armed Forces since his childhood. He followed his dream and went on to join the Army at the age of 20 years. After completing his training, on 23 Jan 1987, he was recruited into 9 Rajput of the famed Rajput Regiment, a regiment known for its courageous soldiers and numerous battle honours.
After serving for around 12 years with his unit, Naik Babu Lal Singh was later deputed to 23 RR battalion deployed in J & K for counter Insurgency operations. Naik Babu Lal Singh got married to Rajdulari Devi and the couple had two sons Rohit Singh and Charan Singh and a daughter Reshma Singh.
Operation Rakshak: 31 Oct 2000
During the year 2000, Naik Babu Lal Singh’s unit was deployed in Rajouri district of J & K. The area under the responsibility of 23 RR was infested with terrorists and the unit was engaged in counter-insurgency operations on a regular basis. On 30 Oct 2000, a group of terrorists in a pre-planned move, attacked the 23 RR unit HQs at about 1800 hours. The terrorists were equipped with automatic weapons and resorted to indiscriminate firing to cause panic and maximum causalities.
Though it was a surprise attack by the terrorists and at the time of their choosing, the troops of 23 RR rose to the occasion and quickly organized themselves to repulse the attack. A fierce gun battle ensued thereafter lasting for several hours. However, during the heavy exchange of fire, Naik Babu Lal got seriously injured. He later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Naik Babu Lal was a gallant and committed soldier who laid down his life in the service of the nation at the age of 33 years.
Naik Babu Lal Singh is survived by his father Shri Shripal Singh, mother Smt Subhadra Devi, wife Rajdulari Devi, sons Rohit Singh and Chandan Singh and a daughter Reshma Singh.
