Naik Jidan Bage hailed from Gumla in Jharkhand was born into a humble yet proud family. His father, Shri Suleman Bage, and his mother, Smt Manonit Bage, nurtured him with values of hard work, dedication, and an unwavering sense of duty. Even as a child, Jidan’s eyes shone with a quiet determination—a spark that would one day guide him toward a destiny of service and sacrifice. After completing his school education, Nk Jidan made a life-changing decision. Inspired by the call of duty and a desire to serve his nation, he joined the Indian Army. His courage and potential did not go unnoticed. Soon after enlisting, he was recruited into the prestigious 7 Bihar Battalion of the Bihar Regiment—an infantry unit renowned for its fearless soldiers and illustrious battle honours. During rigorous training camps and challenging field operations, Jidan quickly earned the respect of his comrades and superiors alike, his steadfast resolve setting him apart as a true warrior. After serving for few years, he got married to Ms Subashi.
During Feb 1991, Naik Jidan Bage's unit 7 Bihar was deployed near Rajewala village in Punjab. On 27 Feb 1991, Naik Jidan Bage and his fellow soldiers were tasked with neutralizing a dangerous militant presence in the area. Intelligence had revealed that the notorious terrorist, Area Commander Satnam Singh Satta of the Bhindrawale Tiger Force, was hiding among the golden wheat fields surrounding the village. Under the cover of darkness, the soldiers advanced, their determination unwavering despite the looming threat. In the heart of the conflict, Naik Jidan Bage's bravery shone through. As the militants unleashed a barrage of gunfire, he moved with precision and resolve. Amidst the chaos, he took aim and successfully shot down the militant leader, Satnam Singh Satta—a moment that signified a crucial victory for the troops on the ground. However, victory came at a steep cost. In the process of eliminating the enemy, Naik Jidan Bage was struck by a bullet, marking the beginning of his personal battle against overwhelming odds. Not willing to yield, and despite the injury, he rallied his section forward. With a steadfast spirit, he led his comrades through a bitter, close-quarters fight against the militants who continued their relentless assault.
The battle raged on, and amidst the flurry of gunfire, Naik Jidan Bage faced further adversity. An AK-47 burst tore into his chest, a wound that proved fatal. Even as his body succumbed to the injuries, his determination never wavered. While he was being urgently transported to the Military Hospital in Amritsar, the weight of his sacrifice became evident. The brave soldier, who had displayed remarkable courage and unyielding devotion to duty, died en route—a hero who had given his all for the safety and honour of his nation. Naik Jidan Bage's actions on that fateful night not only dealt a critical blow to a terrorist organization but also inspired his fellow soldiers and the nation as a whole. Naik Jidan Bage was posthumously honoured with “Shaurya Chakra”, India’s third highest peacetime gallantry award, for his conspicuous bravery and supreme sacrifice.
Naik Jidan Bage is survived by his wife Smt Subashi Barlla.
