Citation for the Sena Medal awarded to him reads:-
On 10 August 2001, Naik Kistura Ram was a part of inner cordon around a house at Baramulla J&K where terrorists were holed up. At about 22:25 hours two terrorists tried to break corden and escape. On being confronted by outer cordon they ran back towards the house simultaneously firing from their weapons. Naik Kistura Ram saw the terrorists and waited for them to close in and killed one terrorist on the spot while injuring the other terrorist who dropped his weapon and escaped in darkness. Naik Kistura Ram sustained injuries and attained martyrdom. The second terrorist was latter confirmed killed through radio intercept of terrorists.
For displaying indomitable courage, total disregard for personal safety and for making the supreme sacrifice Naik Kistura Ram is awarded Sena Medal.
