Naik Sachin Vikram More SM

Naik Sachin Vikram More hailed from Sakori village of Malegaon Tehsil in Nashik District of Maharashtra. Son of Shri Vikram More Vasantdada and Smt Jija Bai, Naik Sachin had two more brothers as siblings. He joined the Army after completing his education at the age of 18 years. He was recruited into 115 Engr Regt of the Corps of Engineers, the important combat support arm of Indian Army.

By the year 2020, he had put in over 12 years of service and had developed into a dedicated and professionally competent soldier. After serving for a couple of years, he got married to Ms Sarika and the couple had two daughters and a son.

LAC Operation (Galwan valley): 24 June 2020

During June 2020, Naik Sachin More’s unit 115 Engr Regt was deployed in eastern Ladakh close to the Line of Actual Control(LAC). Since early June the tension along the LAC was building up due to construction work in Galwan valley close to the road going from Leh to Daulat Beg Oldie. The Chinese had a serious objection to the construction of a bridge across the Galwan river into the Aksai Chin area. The area held strategic importance to India as well as China as it dominated the road from Leh to Daulat Beg Oldie an airstrip of great military significance to India. on 24 June 2020, Naik Sachin was part of the team involved in construction of the bridge over Galwan river.

As Naik Sachin and his comrades were working on the construction site, two of the soldiers lost control and fell into the river. The river was in spate and the lives of the fallen soldiers seemed to be in danger. Sensing the gravity of the situation, Naik Sachin without caring for his own safety jumped into the river to save the lives of his colleagues. Naik Sachin succeeded in saving the lives the two soldiers but unfortunately lost his life in doing so. Naik Sachin was a gallant and committed soldier who laid down his life in the line of his duty. Naik Sachin Vikram More was given the gallantry award, “Sena Medal” on 26 Jan 2021 for his exceptional courage, camaraderie, devotion to duty and supreme sacrifice.

Naik Sachin Vikram More is survived by his father Shri Vikram More Vasantdada, mother Smt Jija Bai, wife Smt Sarika Sachin More, two daughters and a son.

This extraordinary talent of saving one’s life before own is evaporating day by day. Not thinking twice about his family, Naik Sachin Vikram More jumped into the river and saved the life of his comrades. He displayed the courage of the highest order and the bravery to its zenith. I salute him for his gallant action and for displaying the true spirit of the soldier. You not only saved those two soldiers’ life, but you saved the entire 2 families. Courage is in itself a precious commodity, but coupled with such selflessness, there can be few higher virtues in a person. Naik Sachin More has shown the very same spirit and attitude that the Indian Army is renowned for, not hesitating even before paying the ultimate price. Men like him are rare and his exemplary behaviour will forever be an inspiration. Rest in Peace, Sir. You will always be remembered.

I am honored to express my heartfelt gratitude to Sqn Leader Abhinav Chaudhary who is a man I look up to. Not only did sir perform all duties with full diligence towards the country but he was so selfless that even in the alarming situation of the aircraft showing signs of technical defaults and thus posing risk to his life, he thought about the well being of the people in the village and tactfully took the aircraft off the village, which ultimately led to his sad demise. We will forever remember this sacrifice and cherish you and your legacy for years to come, sir. Also, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to his family. Jai Hind!
