During his stint, he proved himself to be an invaluable asset who went beyond the call of duty to accomplish dangerous and difficult tasks. He endeared himself to all with his cheerful and optimistic demenour. On 11 Nov 2011, while Rfn Bhairu Singh and his party were conducting a regular link patrol, they came under a freak avalanche. Rifleman Bhairu Singh made the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
