Sep Dhakane Yashwant Arjun
Sep Dhakane Yashwant Arjun was born on 16 Dec 1981 and hailed from Talegaon village of Dindori tehsil in Nasik district of Maharashtra. Son of Shri Arjun Shridhar Dhakane and Smt Babubai Arjun Dhakane, Sep Dhakane had two brothers Dinkar & Sharad. Sep Dhakane joined the army on 4th Jul 1999 at the age of 17 years. He was recruited into 15 MLI of the Maratha Light Infantry regiment, an Infantry regiment with a rich history of gallantry in various wars & operations. After completing his training Sep Dhakane got posted to the high altitude area of J&K as his first assignment.

During 2001, Sep Dhakane’s unit 15 MLI was deployed in the high altitude area of J&K for counter-insurgency operations. As the AOR (Area Of Responsibility) of the unit was affected by terrorist activities, the unit soldiers had to maintain a very high state of alert and would often launch counter-insurgency operations. One such operation was planned by the unit on 3rd Aug 2001 based on the information from the intelligent sources about the presence of a group of terrorist in a village falling under its AOR. Sep Dhakane was made part of the team that was assigned the task of launching that operation.
Sep Dhakane along with his team leader and other comrades reached the suspected area and launched the search & cordon operation. After a while, the soldiers made contact with the terrorists who fired at them on being challenged. A heavy gunfight followed thereafter lasting for several hours. During the exchange of fire, Sep Dhakane received multiple gunshots and got seriously injured. Sep Dhakane was rushed for medical treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred. Sep Dhakane was a brave and dedicated soldier who laid down his life at the age of 19 years in the service of the nation.
Sep Dhakane Yashwant Arjun is survived by his father Shri Arjun Shridhar Dhakane, mother Smt Babubai Arjun Dhakane, brothers Shri Dinkar Arjun Dhakane & Shri Sharad Arjun Dhakane.
