On 31 Mar 2018, the security forces received information from intelligence sources about the presence of 5 to 6 hardcore terrorists in Kachedoora in Shopian district of J & K. After analysis of the inputs, a decision was taken by the security forces to launch a joint operation to neutralize the terrorists. A joint team comprising elements of 34 RR, J & K police and CRPF was formed, which swung into action in the late night of 31 Mar 2018. The team launched a well-coordinated operation and cordoned off the suspected area in Kachedoora. On being challenged the terrorists fired at the troops and a fierce gun battle ensued thereafter lasting for several hours till the next day.
After several hours of exchange of fire, the assault team decided to storm the suspected house being used by the terrorists. A small team of soldiers from 34 RR led the operation and stormed the house with other troops providing the cover fire. It was a daring and risky operation as the terrorists were hiding and firing from fortified positions within the house. But the gallant soldiers of the Army with disregard to personal safety made a bold move and stormed the house. During the heavy exchange of fire four terrorists got killed and the operation successfully ended by afternoon on 01 April 2018. However, during the operation Sep Hetram, Gunner Nilesh Singh and Gunner Arvinder Kumar from 34 RR sustained serious injuries and were shifted to the hospital. The brave hearts later succumbed to their injuries and were martyred.
Sep Hetram Godara was a brave and committed soldier who laid down his life in the service of the nation. Sepoy Hetram is survived by his wife Sundri.
