Sepoy Sachin Yadav was born in 1996 in the modest yet proud village of Tamlur, located in Degloor taluka of Nanded district, Maharashtra. He was the cherished son of Shri Yadavrao Shivram Vananje and grew up in a large, close-knit family alongside his two brothers. From a young age, Sep Sachin was drawn to the idea of serving the nation. His fascination with the olive-green uniform of the Indian Army was not a fleeting interest — it was a passion that steadily grew into a life’s purpose. He dreamed of wearing the uniform not for glory, but to contribute meaningfully to the security and honour of his country. Determined to realize this dream, Sep Sachin focused his energy on joining the armed forces. After completing his schooling, his relentless hard work and dedication paid off when he was selected to join the Indian Army in 2017 at the age of 21 years. He was inducted into the 6 Mahar Battalion of the Mahar Regiment — one of the Indian Army’s most storied infantry regiments, known for its valour, discipline, and a proud legacy of battlefield achievements.
Sepoy Sachin’s military career began under some of the most extreme conditions imaginable — in Siachen, the world’s highest and most unforgiving battlefield. Amidst the harsh terrain and sub-zero temperatures, he exhibited exceptional resilience, physical endurance, and mental strength. From there, he was posted to Jalandhar in Punjab, and subsequently, for the final 18 months of his service, he was stationed in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir — a high-risk zone requiring utmost vigilance, readiness, and courage. In 2024, Sepoy Sachin Yadav began a new chapter in his personal life when he married Ms Madhura. The couple was later blessed with a daughter, bringing joy and fulfillment to his family life even as he continued to serve the nation with unwavering commitment.
Operation Sindoor (J&K): 06/07 May 2025
In 2025, Sepoy Sachin Yadav was serving with the 6th Battalion of the Mahar Regiment, deployed in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir along the highly sensitive Line of Control (LoC). This 740-kilometre stretch of rugged, mountainous terrain is part of the 3,323-kilometre-long border between India and Pakistan and is regarded as one of the most volatile and militarized zones in the world, often witnessing ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts by Pakistan-backed militants. By early May 2025, tensions along the LoC had escalated sharply following a brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. In response, the Indian Armed Forces were preparing to launch Operation Sindoor—a precision retaliatory strike targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), including training camps and infiltration launchpads. As India geared up for this operation, troops were being mobilized and repositioned to forward areas in anticipation of escalated hostilities. On 6 May 2025, during this crucial preparatory phase, Sepoy Sachin Yadav was transporting fellow soldiers through the mountainous terrain near Ramban. Amidst the difficult conditions and heightened operational movement, the military vehicle he was operating tragically veered off course, resulting in a serious accident. The incident led to the loss of two brave soldiers of 6 Mahar battalion, including Sepoy Sachin Yadav and Hav Suraj Singh Yadav.
The following night, on 7 May 2025, as Operation Sindoor was officially launched, Pakistani forces retaliated with intense and unprovoked shelling across the Poonch sector. Mortar rounds and artillery shells rained down on Indian forward posts and nearby civilian areas. This aggression, believed to be supported by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT)—a group of special forces and militants trained for cross-border attacks—marked a dangerous escalation in the conflict. Sepoy Sachin Yadav, aged 29 at the time of his supreme sacrifice, had been serving in the region for three years. His unwavering dedication, even in the face of heightened tensions and operational risk, stands as a shining example of the courage and commitment that define the Indian Army.
Sepoy Sachin Yadav is survived by his father Shri Yadavrao Shivram Vananje, mother, wife Smt Madhura, and a daughter.
