Brigadier Osman Contractor

Brigadier Osman Contractor was born on 25 Oct 1947 and hailed from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, where he grew up and received his initial education. He went on to study Engineering from Tirupati and then joined the Army. He was commissioned into the Corps of EME on 21 Dec 1969, after passing 28 Tech Graduate course at IMA Dehradun.

 

Military Career : 1969-2001

 

Brig. Osman Contractor had an illustrious career of 32 years with the Indian Army, which was cut short by his untimely death in service of the Army – an organization he loved and cherished. As a young officer, he took part in 1971 Indo-Pak war , when his unit 974 Air defence workshop was deployed in Srinagar during the operations. As a young Captain, he served in the prestigious appointment of Adjutant, EME School – Baroda and subsequently as an instructor at OTS Madras (now OTA).

 

Brig Contractor (then Col) commanded the 639 EME Battalion at Yol between 1991-93 before moving on to an instructional appointment as Head of Department of Tactics and Management at the Military College of EME (MCEME).  He was then posted as Deputy Military Attache at the Embassy of India, Moscow between 1995-98, where he was responsible for the identification and evaluation of next generation armoured fighting vehicles for the Indian Army as well as for ensuring critical and effective engineering support to the complete range of vehicles, armaments, missiles and air defence equipment of Russian origin used by the Indian Army.

 

Brig Osman served in Army HQs and held various appointments including Joint Director in Master General Ordnance Branch (1985-89) and Deputy Director General Equipment Management (DDGEM) between 2000 and 2001. He also served as the Commandant of the vital 505 Army Base Workshop based in New Delhi between 1998 and 2000.

 

Brig Osman was a committed soldier with professional skills of a very high order. A die hard soldier at heart, he was a good human being too, who commanded respect of his seniors as well as of those, who served under him. He left for his heavenly abode on 23 Mar 2001, but will always be remembered as an outstanding soldier , who served the nation till his last breath.

 

Brigadier Osman Contractor is survived by his wife, Mrs Yasmin Contractor, son, Danish and daughter, Seher.

    j s pathan retired from Indian Army.brig Osman contractor is the officer commanding officer of 7 armur workshop babina cantt during my service in 1991 –92.He was best and polite real officer.he was devotee person.he was follow his relegion and respect to all relegion.mrs Yasmeen madam is also fullfill to our families.her instruction was very valluable to help and manage our family life.Brig Osman contractor’s unexpected death is major shock and brake of my heart and increase of my grievances.i pray to Allah for his forgiveness and jannatul firdos.his unexpected death to major loss of our country.
