Armed Attack: 07 Apr 1986
On the night of April 7, 1986, Captain Satish Machhindra Shinde was at his home on annual leave, spending time with his family. That night, he chose to sleep outside his house along with two other male family members. Unknown to them, a gang of about ten armed dacoits, equipped with lathis and iron rods, had set their sights on the household. In the dead of night, the dacoits launched a sudden and brutal attack, targeting the sleeping male members to eliminate any potential resistance. Taken by surprise and severely injured in the initial assault, Captain Shinde displayed extraordinary courage and presence of mind. Despite his injuries, he quickly took decisive action to protect his family. Fighting back with remarkable determination, Captain Shinde managed to reach the main entrance of the house. He firmly shut the door, effectively preventing the dacoits from gaining entry and safeguarding the lives of his family members inside.
For nearly ten minutes, Captain Shinde put up a relentless and valiant resistance, holding off the dacoits and thwarting their attempt to loot the household. Though grievously wounded, his brave stand succeeded in foiling the dacoits' sinister plans. Captain Shinde was later evacuated to a hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries the following morning.
