Sepoy Vajir Raste D was born on 10 June 1978 in the village of Ozare, located in Indapur Taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. He was the son of Shri Dattaraya Banaji Raste and Smt. Baydabai Dattatray Raste, who instilled in him strong values of discipline, integrity, and love for the nation. From an early age, Sep Vajir displayed a deep sense of patriotism and an unwavering desire to serve the country. Like many young boys inspired by the Indian Armed Forces, he dreamt of wearing the olive green uniform and contributing to the defence of the nation.After completing his schooling in his native village, he remained steadfast in his ambition. Through dedication, perseverance, and hard work, he succeeded in achieving his goal and was recruited into the Indian Army on 26 November 1997, at the young age of 19 years. His induction into the armed forces marked the beginning of a life devoted to duty, honour, and service.
Sepoy Vajir Raste was enrolled in the 19 Mahar Battalion of the Mahar Regiment, one of the most distinguished infantry regiments of the Indian Army. The Mahar Regiment has a proud legacy of bravery and sacrifice, with its soldiers earning recognition for their courage in numerous operations and battles. Known for their resilience and indomitable spirit, the troops of the regiment have consistently upheld the highest traditions of the Indian Army. The 19th Battalion of the Mahar Regiment, raised on 11 February 1985, has carved a niche for itself through its exemplary service in diverse and challenging operational environments. Stationed at the regimental centre in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, the battalion has been actively involved in major military operations since its raising. Notably, during the Kargil War, the Mahar Regiment as a whole displayed exceptional gallantry and determination while defending the nation’s territorial integrity in the high-altitude battlefields of Jammu and Kashmir. Sepoy Vajir Raste, as a proud member of this illustrious battalion, carried forward the rich traditions of valour, discipline, and selfless service. His journey from a small village in Maharashtra to the ranks of the Indian Army stands as a testament to his determination and his deep commitment to the nation.
