This region, known for its harsh climatic conditions and rugged mountainous terrain, posed immense operational challenges. In the aftermath of the conflict, as the focus shifted from conventional warfare to stabilisation, the battalion was assigned the demanding task of conducting intensive counter-insurgency operations in the volatile and high-risk areas of Jammu and Kashmir. It was during one such critical mission on 04 September 1999 that Sepoy Vajir Raste D displayed exceptional courage and dedication to duty. Operating in an environment where danger lurked at every step, and where the enemy could strike unpredictably, he remained steadfast and composed.
